February 2006:
We regret to announce that the 2006 Desert Rose Playhouse production of Burying Mama has been indefinitely postponed. The creative team wishes to thank all those who have shown interest and participated in the effort to stage this show. It is our hope that a new production can be mounted soon.

THE MUSICAL: This is a world premiere presentation. The musical is a new musical written by Albuquerque locals Kathleen Matthews and Jane Ellen.

CHARACTERS: Edna Peterson, ALTO - The departed matriarch has had her funeral delayed for three months until her daughters could find the time and make the effort to complete arrangements. At her request, she has been returned to Connecticut - the old family home. She appears as a spirit.

Emily Stanhope, MEZZO-SOPRANO - The eldest daughter of Edna. Divorced and a mother of a single daughter with a young son. Intelligent, neat to a fault and slightly neurotic. Bitter about her divorce and the fact her mother moved to help her sister raise her sons.

Martha Peterson, MEZZO-SOPRANO - The youngest daughter of Edna. The single mother to college age boys. Owns an art gallery in New Mexico. She is talkative, energetic, outgoing, and a bit of a romantic.

Reginald Robinson, BARITONE - Owner of Happy Memories Funeral Home in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. A forgotten elementary school friend of the daughters, who is a man of many talents with a dramatic flair.

Portia Stanhope, SOPRANO - Emily's daughter and the mother of a young son. She is following her mother's dream attending her first year of medical school.

Tom Peterson, TENOR - Older son of Martha. He is a dance/theatre college graduate. He was raised by his mother and beloved grandmother, Edna.
